Image and Language

This is what I study. The use of language and image as cues in advertising or marketing communication efforts. This is on a small lorry that comes to UNIMAS and dispenses free Nescafe to students. The panel here is distinctly Malay, with a well known Malay persona and Malay words use.

At the back of the small lorry is a very Iban traditional dressed girl (though my wife commented on her features that she is most probably not Iban, just wearing the costume) and very Iban words.
And that's the scenario in the Malaysian marketing communication efforts. We have all types of languages and cues, seen by all. Does it work? Do we really need all different cues? How do the different ethnic groups look at this? See my work on this... : )
